zh_TW
People read fiction for pleasure. Pleasure reading motivated by diverse factors such as entertainment, escapism, aesthetic appreciation, or self-identification. which shows that fiction reading is a subjective activity. It indicates that readers often select fiction based on subjective elements like theme, character development, and emotional impact, not solely objective bibliographic information. However, current classification for fiction primarily categorize works based on objective information, overlooking these crucial subjective factors. This mismatch presents a significant challenge for readers attempting to identify books that align with their personal preferences. Scholars have proposed"appeal factors," which include aspects such as genre, writing style, emotional impact, etc., encompassing the diverse dimensions of fiction. In this study, a total of 475 novels were classified using 334 appeal factor tags, developing a faceted classification incorporating appeal factor tags. To evaluate the classification results, 16 research participants were recruited to perform three search tasks using the classification developed by this study and the Taipei Public Library OPAC, then followed by interviews. The results showed that the satisfaction scores of the book search process using the classification developed by this study were significantly higher than scores of Taipei Public Library OPAC. Furthermore, the detailed tags in the faceted classification were found to help participants focus on topics or genres of interest, uncover implicit reading preferences, and unexpectedly widen their areas of interest. This study aims to improve the fiction classification to enhance fiction readers' search experiences and the possibility of engaging in search without a clear target, and to provide advice for organizing library collection.en_US
