Abstract
With the fast pace and increasing stress of modern life, insomnia and depression have become common health issues that significantly impact individuals’ quality of life and contribute to the growing burden on healthcare systems. Therefore, exploring effective treatment methods is particularly important. While conventional treatments such as pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy are widely used, concerns about side effects and inconsistent efficacy have prompted the search for alternative therapies. This study focuses on the effects of Rejuvenation Qigong, a traditional mind-body practice, as an alternative approach to managing symptoms of insomnia and depression. Although Rejuvenation Qigong has received positive feedback in some communities, there is a lack of in-depth research on its health benefits within the modern context of qigong studies. This research aims to explore whether practicing Rejuvenation Qigong can effectively alleviate symptoms of insomnia and depression.Using a qualitative research design, this study conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews with six members of the Rejuvenation Qigong Association, aged between 58 and 69. The participants shared their experiences and perceptions regarding their qigong practice. This approach enabled a deeper understanding of the subjective experiences of practitioners and the potential impact of qigong on their mental and physical health. The findings indicate that most participants reported improvements in insomnia and depressive symptoms after consistently practicing Rejuvenation Qigong. They also experienced enhanced emotional stability, better sleep quality, and increased relaxation and self-regulation. These outcomes highlight aspects of qigong practice that have been underexplored in previous research. This study aims to fill a gap in the literature on Rejuvenation Qigong and its effects on mental health, offering empirical support for the development of alternative treatment approaches. The results suggest potential mental health benefits of qigong and provide new perspectives for addressing insomnia and depression. Ultimately, this research seeks to offer valuable insights for mental health professionals and policymakers working to develop holistic and effective treatment strategies.
