In recent years, the growing popularity of walking tours around Taiwan has positioned this activity as a practice for self-exploration, healing, and reconstructing life meaning. This study adopts a qualitative perspective to examine the internal experiences and psychological development of participants who have completed such journeys. Using a qualitative research approach, four participants were invited to participate in semi-structured, in-depth interviews to collect narratives regarding their motivations, mental skills, and changes in psychological processes. Data were analyzed through thematic analysis. Findings indicate that participants’ motivations can be categorized into: (1) self-challenge, (2) relief of emotional stress, and (3) social relationships. Three primary mental skills were identified: (1) self-talk, (2) goal setting, and (3) mental toughness. The psychological journey comprised five stages: initiation, challenges and low points, adaptation and breakthrough, transformation with growth and gratitude, and conclusion with continuation. In conclusion, walking around Taiwan represents an intertwined process of physical movement and inner transformation. Participants not only extend their physical limits but also cultivate emotional regulation, willpower, and mindset growth.
